Tie Style: Are You In Or Out?

If you think putting on a tie is as easy as tying a knot, well you still have a lot to learn about fashion. A tie which can be equated more or less to a woman's scarf is one fashion accessory a distinguished gentleman should not be without. And what's more, such illustrious chaps should not be without the basic knowledge about the what's and how's of tie wearing.

To be dressed with a tie on means that you are aiming for the sophisticated and classy look. Albeit, wearing the wrong tie or perhaps, wearing the tie the wrong way can also make one sloppy, immature, trivial or then again get people's attention with them saying behind your back, “What was he thinking?” Impressionable men wear ties to impress not turn off the ladies. So for the benefit of those fashionably unequipped lads, here is what you should know on basic tie styles.

• The Bowtie

Think 007. Bond, James Bond. This famous Casanova spy has been known to sport a classic bowtie with his tuxedo, looking all elegant and refined as he works his way to the ladies as well as his targets and on their loot. There is nothing more fitting to a tuxedo than a bowtie, nothing. This look would go well when you are on your way to a posh party uptown or for just grown up men to the junior-seniors prom and of course, this very well suits your poker face just fine for all that bluffing you'll be making in the casino.

• Double/Full Windsor

If you are going for that smart and sharp look to impress your clients with then there is no better tie style for you but the Full Windsor. This tie knotting style lives up to its name as it turns out a full, wide and thick loop that as some men put it, gives you that added boost of confidence on your posture and on your walk. It has been said that a lot of women also prefer the Double Windsor tie style for some inexplicable reason. Perhaps, because the knot looks powerful and so compliments the person wearing it.

• Half Windsor

The little brother of the Full Windsor, this one may get the job done for some as it is less complicated to knot. For people on the go and who have less time to sit in front of the mirror and dress themselves, this may be the most suitable knot. It still gives you a well-groomed, smart appearance as it takes after its brother. But be careful not to stand next to a full Windsor or there will be definitely an attention shift from you to the person wearing it.

• Clip-ons

Busier people and perhaps those with more lazy bones would surely love the clip-on. No more flipping, turning and knotting the tie in front of you, making sure that it is securely in place and that it looks neat and presentable. Now you can use those minutes that you used to spend tying to do other things like brushing your teeth or what have you. And just because they are easy to wear does not mean that they are shabby, you will find that there are clip-on ties that will suit you just fine.
